Does Turkey Count Toward Your Schengen 90/180 Days?

Turkey is not in the Schengen Area, so Turkey days do not count as Schengen days. But Turkey has separate entry and stay rules.

Checked against European Commission, Netherlands government, and Republic of Turkiye MFA sources on July 5, 2026.

No, Turkey does not count toward your Schengen 90/180 days.

Turkey is not included in the European Commission's Schengen Area composition or the Netherlands government's Schengen country list. Turkey has its own visa and stay rules, which depend on passport and status.

Short answer: track Schengen and Turkey as separate clocks.

Is Turkey in the Schengen Area?

No.

The European Commission says the Schengen Area is composed of 29 countries: 25 EU member states and four non-EU countries, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein.

Turkey is not in that composition.

Netherlands Worldwide also lists Turkey as an EU candidate country and separately lists the Schengen countries. Turkey is not in the Schengen country list.

That means a day in Turkey should not be entered as a Schengen day in a Schengen 90/180 calculation.

Does Turkey reset your Schengen clock?

No.

Leaving Schengen means you stop adding new Schengen days while you are outside the area. It does not erase Schengen days you already used.

The European Commission describes the Schengen short-stay rule as up to 90 days in any 180-day period for visits to the Schengen area. That 180-day period rolls.

Turkey can be time outside Schengen. It is not a reset button.

How should you count a Schengen and Turkey route?

Keep two records.

RecordWhat it tracks
Schengen 90/180Short-stay days inside Schengen countries
Turkey stay recordTurkey entry, exit, visa status, and local stay basis

Example:

  • 74 days in Schengen
  • 20 days in Turkey
  • next planned Schengen trip

The 20 Turkey days are not Schengen days. But the earlier 74 Schengen days still matter until they fall outside the rolling 180-day lookback.

Exact dates matter more than trip labels.

Does a Schengen visa let everyone enter Turkey?

No. Do not assume that.

The Republic of Turkiye MFA publishes nationality-specific visa and stay rules. Some entries include e-Visa or stay conditions tied to Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visas or residence permits. Those conditions are not universal.

This guide does not give passport-specific Turkey entry advice.

Before relying on a Turkey stay as time outside Schengen, check:

  • your passport
  • your Turkey visa or visa-free basis
  • your planned entry date
  • your planned exit date
  • the current Turkish MFA page
  • professional advice, if your case is unclear

Are Turkey days and Schengen days the same kind of 90/180 rule?

No.

Some Turkish MFA entries use 90-in-180 language. That does not make Turkey part of the Schengen 90/180 system.

The numbers can look similar while the legal systems stay separate.

Treat them as separate clocks:

  • Schengen clock for Schengen countries
  • Turkey record for Turkey's own stay rules

Mixing them creates a messy record. Calling Turkey a reset button creates a worse one.

What should travelers avoid assuming?

Avoid these shortcuts:

  • "Turkey is in Schengen."
  • "Turkey resets my Schengen counter."
  • "A Schengen visa lets everyone enter Turkey."
  • "All passport holders get 90 days in Turkey."
  • "Jetseen guarantees Schengen or Turkey compliance."

The better habit is simple: count Schengen days inside Schengen, count Turkey days separately, and check Turkey's rules from the official source before travel.

Where Jetseen fits

Jetseen includes built-in Schengen 90/180 tracking. It also supports country-first trip records, custom rolling or calendar-year trackers, alerts, trip simulation, document attachments, and CSV export.

Turkey is not listed as one of Jetseen's built-in rule types, so use custom records rather than assuming Turkey-specific immigration automation.

A practical Turkey and Schengen setup:

  • use the built-in Schengen tracker for Schengen countries
  • log Turkey as a separate trip record
  • attach Turkey visa or entry-status records where relevant
  • create a custom Turkey tracker if your own review threshold requires it
  • simulate future Schengen trips before booking
  • export CSV records for personal or advisor review

Jetseen can help you keep the clocks separate. It does not grant permission to enter Turkey, guarantee admission, provide immigration advice, or replace official border decisions.
