Kenya's eTA is a pre-travel authorization record. It is not the same thing as final admission, transit exemption, stay length, or tax residence.
Short answer: keep the eTA application or exemption basis, passport, itinerary, accommodation, approval record, point-of-entry decision, and actual entry and exit dates as separate records. Kenya's official eTA guidance says possession of an eTA is not the final authority to enter Kenya. Admissibility is determined at the point of entry.

What is Kenya eTA?
Kenya's official eTA site says the Republic of Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation is operated by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, State Department for Immigration, Directorate of Immigration Services.
The official general-information page describes eTA as a system that determines eligibility to travel to Kenya. It says an eTA offers permission to travel and is authorized by the Government of Kenya.
It also draws a clear line: possession of an eTA is not final authority to enter Kenya, and admissibility is determined at the point of entry.
For travelers, that means your record should have separate fields for:

Who usually needs to apply before travel?
Kenya's official how-to-apply page says all visitors, including infants and children, who intend to travel to Kenya must have an approved eTA before the start of their journey, unless exempt.
The official site lists several exemption categories, including holders of Kenya permanent residence, valid work permits and passes, citizens of East African Partner States for the stated period, some listed nationalities for stated periods, diplomatic and official categories, and certain transit passengers.
This guide does not publish a full exemption table. The safer recordkeeping habit is to check the official Kenya eTA site close to the trip and save the date you checked it.
What about transit through Kenya?
Kenya's official visitor application page lists passengers in transit through Kenya as exempt when they arrive and leave by the same aircraft, or transfer to another aircraft, and do not leave the precincts of airports in Kenya.
That condition matters. Do not shorten it to "transit is exempt."
Keep transit records that show:
- arrival flight
- onward flight
- airport used
- whether you stayed within airport precincts
- whether your bags or route required border processing
- any official eTA page or airline instruction checked before travel
If your route requires leaving the airport precincts, changing airports, staying overnight landside, or entering Kenya, treat that as a different question and check the official eTA rules again.
What documents should visitors prepare?
Kenya's official visitor page says travelers should have:
- a passport valid for at least six months after the planned arrival date into Kenya
- at least one blank passport page
- a selfie or passport-type photo
- contact details
- arrival and departure itinerary details
- accommodation booking confirmations
- a credit card, debit card, or other payment method
Depending on the visit purpose, the site may ask for more records, such as medical appointment letters, conference invitations, employment contracts, resettlement support documents, or vaccination or test certificates.
Do not keep those as loose screenshots. Put them under the trip they belong to.
How long does processing take?
Kenya's official general-information page says eTA applications are usually processed in three days and recommends submitting at least two weeks before travel.
The FAQ says the official website or official mobile app should be used for applications, and each traveler needs their own eTA.
For your own file, save:

Your eTA record and your Kenya day count are related, but they are not the same.
