South Korea Workation Visa: 2026 Status and Day Tracking

South Korea extended the F-1-D Workation visa test operation period for 2026. Track visa eligibility, stay dates, insurance, and local-employment restrictions separately.

South Korea's F-1-D Workation visa is still a test-operation program under the official 2026 notice reviewed for this guide.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines says the Workation visa test operation period was extended from January 1, 2026 until a later announcement.

Short answer: treat the Workation visa as a remote-work visa route with strict eligibility, income, insurance, stay-period, and local-employment limits. Track the visa dates and your actual Korea days separately from the eligibility question.

What is South Korea's F-1-D Workation visa?

The 2026 MOFA embassy notice identifies the route as an F-1-D Workation multiple-entry visa.

Korea Immigration's official English PDF describes it as a digital nomad or workcation visa for eligible overseas business owners or people affiliated with international companies who can work remotely.

The program language matters. Do not treat "digital nomad visa" as a loose lifestyle label. It is a specific immigration route with official requirements.

Was the Workation visa extended for 2026?

Yes, according to the 2026 MOFA embassy notice.

The notice says the test operation period was extended from January 1, 2026 until a later announcement.

That is not the same as saying the program is permanent. The current official wording cited here describes an extended test operation period, so this guide does not call it permanent.

Who can apply?

Official sources describe eligible applicants as foreign-company employees or overseas business owners who can work remotely and have more than one year of relevant work or industry experience.

The Korea Immigration PDF also says applicants must be 18 or older, except dependent children.

Accompanying family members may be included under the official criteria, but family eligibility still belongs in the official application review. This guide does not decide who qualifies.

Do not infer freelancer eligibility from this wording. The official language cited here names foreign-company employees and overseas business owners, so check current official instructions before treating freelancers as eligible.

What income and insurance records matter?

Official sources tie the income threshold to more than twice Korean GNI per capita of the previous year, as announced by the Bank of Korea.

The official PDF and the 2026 embassy notice include a KRW 84.96 million example based on 2022 GNI. Do not treat that example as the current 2026 required amount without checking the latest official calculation.

The Korea Immigration PDF also says individual medical insurance must cover at least KRW 100 million for medical treatment and repatriation during the stay.

For your own file, keep:

  • income evidence used in the application
  • the GNI calculation source used by the mission or advisor
  • insurance policy dates
  • insurance coverage amount
  • documents submitted to the embassy or immigration office

How long can you stay?

The Korea Immigration PDF says one year is granted from date of entry when registering as a foreigner, and the stay can be extended for one additional year, up to two years.

The 2026 embassy notice lists the visa as multiple-entry with validity and stay period shown as one year.

For tracking, split those into separate records:

RecordWhat to keep
Visa issue and validityThe visa record and passport used
Korea entryThe date the stay starts
Foreigner registrationRegistration date and supporting documents
ExtensionAny approved extension and new end date
ExitActual departure date

The app record should mirror what happened, not what you hoped would happen when planning.

Can you work for Korean clients or local employers?

Do not assume that.

The Korea Immigration PDF states that employment and profit-making activities in Korea are restricted.

This is one of the highest-risk areas for casual advice. Remote work for a foreign company and local work in Korea are different questions. If income source, client location, or employment setup matters to your plan, get qualified immigration and tax advice before acting.

Can tourist-status visitors switch inside Korea?

The Korea Immigration PDF says short-term tourist visa holders in B-1, B-2, or C-3 status may change to the Digital Nomad Workation visa if they meet the requirements.

That is a source-backed possibility, not a guarantee. It also does not replace country-specific embassy instructions or immigration-office review.

If your plan depends on changing status, keep copies of:

  • current status or entry record
  • application form
  • required documents
  • submission date
  • approval or denial notice
  • new permitted-stay date, if approved

Why day tracking still matters

Visa eligibility is one question. Your actual Korea stay record is another.

A useful record can answer:

  • when you entered Korea
  • which passport you used
  • which visa or status you used
  • how long the approved stay was
  • when registration or extension steps happened
  • when you left
  • whether future trips overlap with visa or insurance dates

That record can help with personal planning and advisor review. It does not decide visa eligibility or tax effects.
